Because I work on Social Security I'm constantly being forwarded emails with rumors of various sorts about the program. (Often the same people forward me the same emails repeatedly; if you're reading this, it's ok to stop sending them.) Fact Check.org, with a big assist from SSA historian Larry DeWitt, goes through the most common Social Security email in great detail. While most emails are at least a mix of facts and legend, in this case pretty much every claim made in the Social Security chain email is false. Just shows you can't trust everything you read on the internet. Check out the debunking here.
